阿拉伯的劳伦斯

第一次世界大战爆发以后,德国的盟友土耳其趁机侵入阿拉伯半岛,而该地区的各个部族处于四分五裂的状态,无力抵抗土耳其侵略军。英国军方派了一个“阿拉伯通”、陆军情报军官劳伦斯到那里进行活动。劳伦斯在去麦地那会见部族首领费萨尔王子的途中,遇见了哈里苏部族的首领阿里,此人年轻剽悍,后来给了劳伦斯很大的帮助。劳伦斯到费萨尔处,只见他的大本营遭到土尔其飞机的轰炸,伤亡惨重。费萨尔采纳了劳伦斯的意见,从陆路攻打亚喀巴,为占领大马士革铺平道路。劳伦斯则与阿里率领突击队穿过沙漠,冒着炎热与风沙。日夜兼程,很快攻下该城。英国在阿拉伯半岛的意图是给阿拉伯人有限的枪枝弹药,叫他们牵制士耳其的兵力,同时将阿拉伯各部族置于自己的控制之下,劳伦斯基本上是按照这一战略采取行动的,但做法上比较讲究策赂。他换上阿拉伦人的服装,尽量在生活上接近阿拉伯人,由于突击队屡建战功,威震中东,劳伦斯被誉称为“阿拉伯的劳伦斯”。在对大马士革发动的总攻势中,劳伦斯与阿里率领的阿拉伯军队骁勇善战,长驱直入,比英军提前一天攻入。但战后,英阿双方在管辖大马士革这个问题上发主严重分歧,劳伦斯困于复杂的政治外交斗争之中,仕途失意,不得已退役。他回到英国后,忧郁不得志。在一次交通事故中身亡。
